Other Neurotransmitters - Another factor is that stress can increase levels of neurotransmitters like glutamate and substance P, which play a role in pain perception. When these substances are elevated, pain can be experienced as more intense.


Therefore, it is important to manage stress in order to reduce the risk of increased pain and other health problems. Using relaxation exercises, exercise, deep breathing, or other stress management techniques can help reduce the impact of stress hormones on the body and consequently lessen the experience of pain.
